By Plane:

Fly to Hania (on the north coast) - Workshops normally run Tuesday to Tuesday to link with charter flights from the UK. Heraklion is also possible but adds time to the transfer. From Heraklion Airport to Hania is 1½ to 2 hours.

By Car:

From Airport follow signs to Hania (Chania), after about 4 kilometres fork left for Souda. Through Souda follow signs for Rethymnon/Heraklion to bring you onto the Hania by-pass.

Turn right onto the by-pass in the direction of Kastelli (Kissamos), heading WEST. This avoids all the traffic in Hania city. Drive for approx 30minutes until you reach the junction sign-posted, Tavronites and Paleochora. (The junction is at the bottom of a straight downhill stretch and after the bridge over the river, cement works to the left).

View from the road as you approach

Head for Paleochora (65km away), after Voukolies the road winds through the mountains descending again into Kandanos, (approx 40mins). You then pass through the villages of Plemeniana, Kakodiki and Kalamos, (another 30 mins);  after Kalamos it is about 5 mins to the Azogires turn on your left, signposted for Azogires and Sougia .

After 10 minutes you are in the village (5 kms), pass both tavernas and just before the next left hand bend you will see the centre on the left, continue around the corner and take the drive on your left to the back of the centre. Come around to the balcony and have a cool drink, looking down the valley to the clear sea a few kilometres away!

Total journey time is 1½ to 2 hours. Enjoy the beautiful mountain road but drive carefully.

Our telephone number in Azogires is (2823) 042355 (country code Greece is 0030).

(From Heraklion Airport follow directions for Heraklion, then Hania, along the main road and then onto Hania by-pass and then as above. From Heraklion Airport to Hania is 1½ to 2 hours.)

By Bus:

Find your way to the bus station in Xania by hitching or taking a taxi. Bus run a couple of times a day to Paleochora. When you get there, grab a taxi or call Malcolm to beg for a lift. Sometimes it works!

By Taxi:

You can get a taxi from Chania airport for about 90 euro. This is not a bad deal for two or three people sharing and can save on car hire for a day. Contact Malcolm to arrange for one of the local Paleochora firms to pick you up. If you use an airport taxi be sure to show them the map. There is another village in south-west Crete called Azogires!
